Chipstead 0 – 5 Metrogas
Chipstead’s unbeaten start to their league campaign came to an abrupt end on Saturday, when a lacklustre display resulted in them being comprehensively beaten by an excellent Metrogas side, who themselves had yet to drop a point. The disappointing feature of the game was the way the hosts allowed themselves to be outmuscled and out thought, hardly testing the Metrogas keeper throughout the entire 90 minutes.
Metrogas were quick out the blocks and penned Chipstead in their own half from the first whistle. Had it not been for some excellent stops from new keeper David Baker, Chipstead could easily have found themselves several goals down within the first 15 minutes.
As it was, Metrogas had to wait until midway through the half before going ahead, a header back across the face of the goal being knocked in from close range. Tom Wilken had a chance soon after to level the scores, but his effort was comfortably saved by Metrogas’s Jack Howard. Another speedy break saw the visitors add a 2nd before the break.
A 3rd goal soon after the restart put paid to any hopes of a Chipstead fight back. Although Chipstead had brief spells of possession, 2 late goals for the visitors cemented a dismal day for Chipstead.
