U8's Win Langton Fiesta

4th June 2015

Well done to all of today's players and parents at a wet and soggy Langton Green, as Chipstead Under 8s win their first title - Langton Green Fiesta Champions 2015 - congratulations !

I'm afraid it was difficult to keep record of all the scores and scorers , everything was so wet, but here's my stab at it :

The Lions were in a group of 5 and won one, drew two and lost one with all three of their goals scored by Camilo Libralato. Well done, some fine defensive displays up the slope, too.

The Braves were in a group of six and won 4 and lost one match, qualifying for the knockout stages by beating Hastings with a fine performance in their final group match, with goals from Indy, Luke , Finlay, Daniel and Henry. In the quarterfinals, they lost narrowly to Langton Green, a fine effort against the hosts.

The Red Sox were also in a group of six , won their first 4 games reasonably comfortably , but then came up against a very strong and physical Elms side in their last match group.

Chipstead twice came from behind to secure a draw and qualify top of the group, eliminating Elms. Goals came from Hamish, Freddie, Joe and Jonny (cool late penalty v Elms).

In the quarters the boys beat one Langton Green side 2-1 with goals from Hamish and Freddie, then in the semi they played the other Langton Green side in what was a humdinger of a match with Hamish scoring the only goal and Ben W performing some heroics in goal to secure the win.

In the final, against Merstham , Freddie scored a screamer and Hamish secured the 2-0 to bring home the trophy.

In addition to those mentioned so far, the Red Sox featured fine left back performances from Lewis M and solid all-round game from Jed B. Amazing what boys will do when playing for ice cream (see photo below). Freddie is holding the trophy - which I will pass to Alan for the club's trophy room...
